Residents of flood-weary Southwest eye forecast for more rain ahead

New Mexico officials peg damages as high as $300 million in their state alone. Flooding has left parts of the Four Corners region in New Mexico and Utah looking like an ocean than a desert, with New Mexico officials predicting damages could reach $300 million. The latest town to evacuate was Bluff, Utah, as part of the San Juan River flooding, and hundreds of homes remained evacuated or cut off by flooded roads. The National Weather Service predicts more heavy rain is predicted for the weekend. The only reported death so far is that of Isabelle Beulaygue, who was swept away while attempting to cross a flooded arroyo in Santa Fe. President Donald Trump has announced federal disaster assistance for New Mexico, with 25% matched by agencies in the state. The costs of debris removal, road and bridge repair and other "longhaul" recovery could reach as much as $300m.
