The Texas Democratic Convention is being held Thursday through Saturday at the Convention Center. Businesses are preparing for visitors to spend more than normal clients.
"It’s very very different, it’s not the usual El Paso drinks that we serve, margaritas or tequila shots," Barquin added. "They order leveled-up cocktails, like Manhattans."
Bars and restaurants have been preparing for the wave of customers.
"It gives us the possibility of serving people who come from outside the state of Texas," Patricia Terrazas at Healthy Bite said through a translator. "We have to have a little more things prepared for those days."
These conventions are a lifeline for many downtown businesses.
"I think it’s very important to have these events happen mainly for the small business owners, people who invested their entire life, their money," Patricia Mendoza, owner of a coffee shop said. "We’re incredibly thankful for these events."
