A man accused of elderly abuse broke a bone in an El Paso police officer's face Wednesday, while on the same day in an unrelated case a sheriff's deputy was attacked by another man, who also broke a patrol car's window, officials said.

The first incident happened about 12 a.m. Wednesday when El Paso Police Department officers was patrolling the 300 block of West Missouri Avenue in Downtown El Paso.

The officers recognized Jeffrey Alan Battle, 40, who had a warrant out for his arrest, El Paso Police Department officials said. The warrant was in connection with a March 19 case in which Battle is accused of hitting a 75-year-old man.

Battle was sitting outside an apartment when he saw the officers. He then ran inside the apartment building and shut the door on one of the officers, officials said. The officers had ordered him to stop.

He then allegedly threw a glass pipe at the officers and continued to run toward an apartment.

The officers attempted to use a Taser on Battle to subdue him but were unsuccessful, officials said.

Battle allegedly struck one of the officers on the face. The hit caused the officer, whose name was not released, to suffer a fracture, officials said.

After a struggle, officers were able to arrest Battle. Officers allegedly found Battle was in possession of under 2 ounces of marijuana.

Battle was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault on a peace officer, resisting arrest, evading arrest or detention, possession of marijuana under 2 ounces, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

He was booked Wednesday into the El Paso County Jail on a bond totaling $23,300.

Battle was arrested in connection with an outstanding warrant of injury to an elderly person. Bond on the charge was set at $40,000.

He had yet to post bond as of Monday afternoon, jail logs show.

Later that same day, El Paso County Sheriff's Office deputies responded about 8:25 p.m. to a report of an "aggressive subject" at University Medical Center of El Paso, 4815 Alameda Ave., sheriff's officials said.

The deputies arrived to assist another deputy with Marco Antonio Garcia, 35, who allegedly was trespassing at the South-Central hospital.

Garcia broke a patrol vehicle’s window and injured one of the deputies during the incident, officials said.

No information was released on what injuries the deputy suffered. The deputy's name was not released.

Garcia was arrested on suspicion of assault on a public servant, criminal trespass, resisting arrest or transport, and criminal mischief.

He was booked into the El Paso County Jail on Wednesday on a bond totaling $5,500. He had yet to post bond as of Monday afternoon, jail logs show
