Borderland Mythbusters: El Paso Actually Invented 'Friday Night Lights'

The Lady on the Hill, El Paso High School, is home to R.R. Jones Stadium, where Texas Friday night football was born in 1928 with the Tigers defeating Alpine 26 to 0 under newly installed lights. El Paso, Texas, has been credited with inventing the tradition of Friday night football under the lights, starting in 1928. R.R. Jones Stadium, a venue so historic it appears like it belongs to ancient Rome, hosted the first Friday night games in Texas in 1928 and became the first stadium in the state to have permanent outdoor lighting for sporting events. The game attracted over 10,000 fans, while the field was lit with 80 bulbs of 300 watts each. The stadium has been named one of the top high school stadiums in the country by USA Today, ESPN, and CBS Sports.
