Two days after announcing that it was giving out free autism awareness decals to help its officers engage with the neurodivergent community, the Las Cruces Police Department said it has officially exhausted its supplies.

The Las Cruces Police Department announced Wednesday that it has run out of the free autism awareness decals it was giving out in honor of World Autism Month.

However, the department said it has already ordered more decals, which should be available within the next few weeks.

The decals are part of an initiative by LCPD to not only honor World Autism Month but also help its officers engage with the community's neurodivergent population.

When placed prominently in a window, LCPD said, the decals help alert police that someone either in a car or a residence has autism spectrum disorder, which in turn helps mitigate misunderstandings during traffic stops or home visits.

The decals were available for free to anyone with autism spectrum disorder and those who care for somebody with autism.

LCPD has ordered additional autism awareness decals that should be available within the next few weeks.
