El Paso NAACP Condemns Halloween KKK Imagery

The El Paso NAACP urged local leaders to condemn KKK imagery after people dressed as Klansmen appeared in social media posts. The El Paso NAACP has called on local leaders to condemn KKK imagery after images of people dressed as Klansmen were circulated online. The clips showed six people in white robes in a backyard and walking down a neighborhood street. The NAACP stated that the KKK hood was not a costume and that the display reflected a national climate of division and discrimination. The branch called on elected officials, faith leaders and civic advocates across El Paso County to speak out against the display. The robes carry a long history of violence in Texas, tracing back to 1868 when members were murdering and terrorizing formerly enslaved people and White Republicans. The public response to Klan imagery has also included major brands including Converse and AllHipHop.
