New Mexico confirms new case of screwworm in beef cow
New Mexico officials confirmed a new case of New World screwworm on Wednesday but say activity could slow down as temperatures drop. New Mexico officials have confirmed a new case of New World Screwworm, found in a beef cow in Otero County. The Department of Agriculture anticipates activity to decrease as temperatures drop. Last week, two cases were confirmed in Grant County. State and federal officials are working to identify any additional cases by expanding surveillance and fly-trapping around affected locations. To prevent the spread of screwwarm, officials have established a 12.4-mile radius infested zone around the affected animal's location. Officials urge livestock producers and animal owners to remain vigilant and report any suspected cases.
