El Paso parents who need a little extra feeding for their children this summer might want to send them back to school.
Several school districts will provide free breakfast and lunch during the summer months.
According to Feeding America, nearly 1 in 4 children in Texas faces hunger. Schools that provide free meals are trying to promote a healthy and active lifestyle. They offer meals for all children, not just their students 18 and under.
Here's a closer look at the free meal program for 2024.
For the children who rely on school meals during the academic year, these meals offer a source of good nutrition when school is out for the long summer vacation.
Eight high schools in the Ysleta district will provide children with free breakfast and lunch meals throughout June.
The 2024 Ysleta ISD Summer Food Service Program will provide breakfast from 7:30 to 9 a.m. and lunch from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for children ages 1 to 18. The program will run through June 28.

Idea schools to offer free meals in June and July
Idea public schools will be serving free meals to any child 18 and under from June 17 through July 26.
The Idea Public Schools' Child Nutrition Program is open to all students, not just Idea students.
"Healthy nutrition is important for all children in our community, not just while they are in a classroom learning, but year-round," said Fernando Aguilar, vice president of the Child Nutrition Program at IDEA Public Schools, in a statement. "With nearly 1.7 million children across Texas at risk of going hungry this summer, we are excited to be able to provide nutritious meals while relieving families of the potential financial burden they can experience over the summertime."
The summer meals will include breakfast and lunch and must be consumed in the cafeteria of any Idea El Paso campus Monday through Friday. Breakfast will be served from 7:30 to 9 a.m., and lunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food service will be closed on federal holidays, including June 19 and July 1 through July 5.
The Socorro ISD will offer free meals to all children, ages 18 and under, in several high, middle and elementary schools. The meals will be provided from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Thursday through June 27.
To participate, children must show up; no proof of income is required. The summer menu will be available at https://schools.mealviewer.com/district/socorro
