The inspections are part of the El Paso Police Department's "Enough Is Enough" initiative, following a crash involving a semi-truck and multiple vehicles. The truck driver reported brake failure while traveling downhill, causing the semi-tanker to hit multiple vehicles, killing 42-year-old Rene Perez-Ramirez. Royal Jones, president and CEO of Mesilla Valley Transportation, supports the inspections but believes additional measures will require additional measures to prevent future crashes. Jones also suggested reviewing speed limits for trucks and that commercial vehicles should remain in the right lane while descending the mountain.
