Dozens of Indiana National Guard troops have been deployed to the southern border of Texas to combat the spread of illegal drugs. The troops are set to arrive in Texas in April and will not have the power to arrest anyone but will instead be monitoring and reporting what they see to Texas officials. Their role will include spotting people with illegal drugs and assisting in the seizure of more than 400 pounds of fentanyl in the past four months. The deployment comes just weeks after Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb visited the border and announced he would send Indiana troops to El Paso. The governor thanked the 50 guardsmen at a departure ceremony for their service and expressed his appreciation for their work.
