Sierra Store Expected to Open in Fall 2026 at Albuquerque's Cottonwood Corners

A long-dead Toys R Us on Albuquerque's Westside is finally getting new life this November. Sierra, the off-price outdoor retailer owned by TJX Companies, is set to open a 20,000-square-foot store at Cottonwood Corners in fall 2026 at the former Toys R Us building on Albuquerque's Westside. The store will offer discounted outdoor gear, apparel, and footwear. Sierra operates as an off-priced retailer selling discounted outdoor, active and footwear products, similar in model to TJ Maxx but geared toward adventure gear. The new Sierra store will occupy a junior tenant space within the former Toy R Us store, which had been vacant for eight years. SimonCRE, which acquired CottonwoodCorners in 2024, has been working to reposition the property. This is part of a larger growth pattern for Sierra, which opened 22 stores in the fiscal year that ended Feb. 2025, bringing its total to 117 locations.
