Police arrested a man in connection to a West El Paso deadly hit-and-run from April.
Hector Julian Velasquez, 22, was arrested Tuesday after he re-entered the U.S. from Mexico through the Santa Fe bridge in downtown El Paso, according to the El Paso Police Department.
On Friday, police obtained an arrest warrant for Velasquez for a "collision involving death," for the crash that happened on April 28, at around 1 a.m., at the intersection of Mesa Street and Castellano Drive, near the Angry Owl restaurant.
Police believe Velasquez-- driving a 2015 black GMC Sierra-- was driving north on Mesa Street, got into a crash with a 2018 silver Dodge Charger traveling west on Castellano Drive and then fled the scene.
A preliminary police investigation claimed the crash was caused when "one of the vehicles ran the red light", however, police have yet to specify which vehicle was at fault.
Both the driver and a passenger of the Dodge Charger were taken to the hospital with serious injuries, however, the driver, El Pasoan Eric Leal, 23, died due to his injuries.
